  1. I was one of Ruth's students as CSSSA. My family and I were informed of the play through facebook, and went to see it in the Hollywood Cemetary at night, the first performance on Friday 30th, 2009. I have written a review for my school newspaper, which is attached below:

  2. My heartfelt congratulations on an AMAZING inaugural production! The precision and depth of Chalk Rep's "Three Sisters" allowed a clarity and humor to shine through that's usually missing from productions of Chekov's work. Looking forward to more great work from this brave new company!

  3. Transformative, beautiful, delicious theatre. Yearning, moving, longing, intimately detailed performances. Breathing, lonely characters. Alive. So alive. I cried five times. Thank you for giving me a reason to cry, a reason to feel. A reason to think yet find no resolution but to feel. And feel deeply. As I drove home and passed the hordes of Hollywood crowds standing in massive lines trying to get into this bar or that club, I thought, This is what they are looking for. This is what we always have been and will continue to look for. Life. We try to find it in odd places. In odd people. Sometimes we do find just a little bit of true life. I felt truly thankful for the life you gave to me, to all of us, and even to this city, whether the city may recognize this gift or not. No gift is given in vein, even when it may seem so. Hurrah. Congratulations. And thank you.

  4. Beautiful production and amazingly talented ensemble cast! Top notch all around! Congrats Chalk Rep! I look forward to seeing more.

  5. Congratulations Chalk Rep!!!! What a wonderful production of 3 Sisters!!! I am so very proud of all of you. I can't wait to see what you have in store next. Thank you for keeping theater alive and well in Los Angeles.

  6. Saw the show last Friday. Outstanding performances in an outstanding production. Have thought about it several times since. It was an overwhelming magical experience. I highly recommend it!

  7. Condensation of a review I posted: There are many fine performances in Chalk Rep’s innaugural production of Three Sisters, directed by Larissa Kokernot; the most impressive may be by the old Masonic lodge the company uses to stage the show. But the setting would be nothing without the performances themselves, which are full of energy, humor and life, none more so than Aileen B. Cho’s Irina and Joy Osmanski’s Olga, at least at the beginning of the play.

Ricardo Antonio Chavira crafts a subtle, three-dimensional Vershinin, crafting a thoughtful philosopher-soldier. Jennifer Chang’s Masha matches him, and Chang’s moment of despair at the end of the play will haunt you. There are no weak links in the ensemble; of particular note is Owiso Odera’s take on the deeply disturbed Solyony, Corey Brill’s comically hapless Kulygin, and Tony Amendola’s Chebutykin. Feodor Chin's provides a nice anchor for the show; we sense Andrei's growing frustration at being caught in a difficult situation and his inability to really do anything about it.

    Well worth seeking out.

  8. Congratulations on your outstanding reviews. I'm very excited to see the show on Feb 22nd. xo
