classical and contemporary plays in unconventional spaces

Thank you for attending our 2013 Season!
"Sure, you can watch Oscar Wilde on a stuffy indoor stage, but isn't it more fun to traipse through the verdant grounds of UCLA's William Andrews Clark Memorial Library for a theatrical, plein air garden party? The 5-year-old Chalk Repertory Theatre selects an exciting, relevant locale for each of its site-specific productions. This clever crew has staged a futuristic peek at motherhood inside a kiddie play center and done Chekhov's Three Sisters at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Its latest project, a quartet of vignettes honoring the Natural History Museum's centennial, plays through Oct. 13 alongside the skeletons and dioramas. The unorthodox approach allows for green, cost-saving productions (tickets go for around $20) that thrust the audience into the action — and eliminates any chance of them sneaking out at intermission. But with shows this good, why would you want to?" —Jenny Lower, LA WEEKLY
